Who we are

Alor Tanapi was created by two dive professionals passionate about marine life, the island of Alor, and its people.

Over the years, working across some of the world’s most well-known diving destinations, we experienced both the beauty and the pressure that comes with growing marine tourism. This shaped our approach when building Alor Tanapi Dive Resort, focusing on small groups, personalised service, and minimal environmental impact.

Alor stood out not only for its exceptional diving conditions, but also for its sense of community, untouched landscapes, and the strong connection between the people and the sea. These are the elements we wanted to preserve while creating a place where divers could experience Alor in a meaningful way.

After working in dive resorts and on liveaboards travelling around Bali, Lombok, Komodo, Alor, Ambon, Banda, Sulawesi and Raja Ampat, we both felt a strong connection to this part of Indonesia. Although both of us have origins in North Sulawesi, we felt there was something special about this island and the people living here, in addition to the impressive underwater life. So after much consideration and several years of planning and building, we created Alor Tanapi Dive Resort, and now finally can call Alor “home”.

Our vision and mission

Our vision is to create a dive resort in Alor that balances comfort, sustainability, and authentic local connection. We aim to support responsible tourism in East Nusa Tenggara by working closely with local communities, hiring locally wherever possible, and contributing to environmental awareness initiatives.

We also believe that education plays an important role in protecting marine ecosystems. Through daily interactions, dive briefings, and guest experiences, we hope to share knowledge about the fragile underwater environment of the Coral Triangle and encourage more mindful diving practices.

Our mission is not only to provide access to world-class diving in Alor, but also to ensure that tourism contributes positively to the island and its future development.

Through our professional and personal experiences, we have learned and seen how we, humans, impact our environment. We know none of us is without fault, and we understand the many challenges of living in a human world, but we believe that every bit counts, and therefore we ask you to join us in doing your part too when travelling to this part of the world. Small things such as having a re-usable water bottle, reef-friendly sunscreen or biodegradable soap, will go a long way when every guest does it too.

We do not claim to have done or to do everything perfectly ourselves, but we do try to improve every day, and with your help, we believe we can continue to do better.

Through Alor Tanapi, we hope to be able to share our knowledge of what we have learned over the years with locals and foreigners alike, and that we can help build a more sustainable future for the generations to come so that they may continue to enjoy the magnificent gem that is Alor.
